Joliver House

Joliver House

The last 3 months have been spent making several large commissions at a beautifully restored 17th century house in Finsthwaite, near Newby Bridge.

The first of the commissions was a very grand fitted wardrobe with a Palladian style frieze and burr oak doors. We also made 4 very individual bookcases for various rooms of the house. The most interesting of which, was undoubtedly ‘the doorway bookcase’ in the panelled drawing room. The doorway bookcase was essentially a pair of narrow doors within a bookcase. This doorway connected the hallway to the Drawing Room, however, when the doors are closed from the room side it gives the illusion of being a cupboard within a bookcase. We matched all our mouldings to the existing 17th century panelling, stained and waxed to match. The finished piece looked like it had always been there.

The whole project has been a real pleasure and wonderful to see our work amongst such beautiful craftsmanship. We also loved working so closely with the clients on this one as they were so passionate about the commissions..
